Going out in Toronto for a street shoot is always an exciting adventure. It’s a big city, busy & colourful, with lots going on and I try to go downtown for a street shoot at least once or twice a week. But sometimes you are just too time constrained, however, I almost never leave the house without bringing my camera with me in a very small bag that it just barely fits into.

Equipped like this I have a camera with me every day so when I come across a scene that I’d like to capture, I’m ready, equipped and prepared. Always carry a camera with you and you will always have the opportunity to get shots that you may enjoy and share. If you see it, you can shoot it.

Any camera that is relatively small and operates quickly is a perfect tool for street photography and is not much of a hindrance when coupled with a small discreet camera bag to sling over a shoulder. I literally take it everywhere I go, even when going to church because a Sunday walk may bring many opportunities that would otherwise be missed.

I often prefer B&W images, but an exciting and vibrant city has loads of colour to take advantage of too and sometimes it’s colour that really make the image. whether its simply a mom helping her little boy with a dramatic sunset reflected in the glass above their heads, or one of Toronto’s iconic bright red streetcars (Toronto has had street cars continually since 1861)  or a row of green electric bikes there is a pop of colour ready to be forever captured if you look for it.
