Toronto in the winter can be a very cold city in more ways than one. People have less time to be social on the street and are more interested in getting to where they are going in the cold. When it’s cold people tend to walk faster as well so for street photography you really need to have your camera ready to catch whatever interests you. Having your camera ready usually means cold hands!
But it can be very rewarding to shoot in the cold because people are in a hurry and they don’t even notice you taking their picture! For instance the featured image in this project neither of the women posing for their friend notice me taking a picture of them having their photograph taken. Neither did the guy in the truck intently watching their little iPhone photoshoot.
If you live in a big city, there is always the ability to take images that make your day’s street photography outing worthwhile.
