I decided this little street photography project would take a look at how people spent their time in the city when work had finished. The GTA (Greater Toronto Area) is a big city. People are busy or in a hurry; except when they’re not. The folks captured eating in the window of a grocery store in images one & two are busy. It’s a Friday early evening right after work in Mid Town Toronto. They are grabbing a bite by walking into the local Loblaws supermarket, picking up something ready made, and grabbing a stool in the window.
I’m not sure if this set up is so they can watch passersby on the street, or it’s meant to be the other way around. Whichever it was, it worked for me as I walked by and grabbed these two shots!
The lone Solitary Reader in an almost empty office on the other hand, feel no need to rush. Neither do the people in a coffee shop enjoying a chat or reading a newspaper. They have time on their hands and are not interested in a fast bite but rather spending a relaxing afternoon.
Street Photography Project Step One: Always Carry a Camera
If you always wear a camera as Danish Photographer Thorsten Overgaard always recommends, either situation will become the perfect moment for you to capture how your city spends its time.
Some street photography images just seem to cry out for black & white, to me that was the case here.
